Toyota to invest Rs.900 crore to raise production

Japanese automobile major Toyota Thursday said it will invest Rs.900 crore by next March to increase production capacity at its Bangalore plant.

"We will be investing Rs.900 crore to expand capacity of our Bangalore plant by March next year," Vikram Kirloskar, vice chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) told reporters on the sidelines of the annual summit of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) here.

"The production capacity will increase to 3.1 lakh annually from the 2.1 lakh units at present," said Kirloskar.

Kirloskar added that most of the new investment will be made to increase production of multi-utility vehicles (MUVs) like Innova and Etios.
